Pam grew up in Hershey, PA and later graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. She worked in Christian Radio in Virginia for several years and has been a member of New Life in Christ Church for 25 years. After homeschooling her children for many years, Pam was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. These and other relational struggles strengthened her relationship with Christ, and compelled Pam to pursue her Master’s Degree in Counseling. She is also pursuing certification with the Association of Biblical Counselors (ACBC).  She has partnered with New Life in Christ to provide Biblical counseling to members and non-members alike. For two years, Pam has been coaching and counseling women working through depression, anxiety, destructive relationships and illness. Pam desires to encourage change and growth in the body of Christ and that Christ would be preeminent in all things.

The Purpose of Biblical Counseling?

The purpose for biblical counseling is for each individual to become more like Christ, godly in all spheres of life (2 Peter 1:3-10Romans 8:2829). God often uses trials and suffering to accomplish this (James 1:2-4). The majority of our emotional, mental and physical difficulties have spiritual roots (Psalm 1). The counselor’s role is to discern the spiritual root being manifest emotionally, mentally and physically. Those who come to counseling are usually seeking change and the relief of pain. A Biblical Counselor will help a counselee to find ways of solving life’s challenges and pain with God’s answers. Counseling is sensitive, caring, encouraging and at times confrontational (1 Thessalonians 5:14).

“He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.”- Colossians 1:28

What is Biblical Counseling?

Biblical counseling is built on a simple, enduring principle: the triune God has spoken to us through the Scripture. Furthermore, through biblical history, doctrine, law codes, poetry, and songs, God has revealed to us everything we NEED to know about Him, about ourselves, and about the world around us (2 Peter 1:3). The content of biblical counseling consists of the proclamation of Jesus Himself, the gospel, and the implications for living that proceed from the gospel. The process of biblical counseling consists of people, people being taught by the Holy Spirit. God has determined that He will typically minister His life-rearranging message to us through people.
