Sermon Outline for January 25, 2026
Series: Behold the King (Matthew 8–12)
“Finding Lasting Help in Jesus”
Matthew 8:14–17
This world brings challenges we do not choose. Sickness, weakness, and strain enter our homes and press suffering into ordinary life. In Matthew 8, we see what Jesus does as he confronts sickness in the world. This passage reminds us that God sent Jesus not simply to ease our pain, but to enter it and bear its weight. That raises a simple question for us. What does real help look like in the ministry of Jesus?
I. Jesus Comes Near (Matthew 8:14)
Compassion begins with presence, not distance
Supporting Scripture: Isaiah 63:9
II. Jesus Commands with Compassion (Matthew 8:15-16)
Jesus, in love, does not protect himself from the cost of healing
Supporting Scripture: Philippians 2:5–8; John 14:12
III. Jesus Bears the Weight of the Curse (Matthew 8:16-17)
Healing is what happened; Isaiah explains what it meant
Supporting Scripture: Isaiah 53:4; Hebrews 2:18; 4:15; Romans 8:22–23
Application: “Hard” does not mean “wrong”
What kind of help are you really looking for? Relief that fades, or a Savior who bears the weight? What are you carrying right now that you were never meant to carry alone?
